TSG specializes in water and wastewater treatment services to
resorts in the Caribbean. Resorts on tropical islands have special
needs and requirements, and water and wastewater plants in this
environment present unique challenges with which TSG is intimately
familiar.
Unique Issues
At a self-contained
Caribbean
resort, the water and wastewater
treatment plants, and the uses of water in hotel rooms, restaurants,
pools, laundries and marinas, comprise one large system in
which all of the parts affect the others. Water chemistry,
beginning with the RO plant, must be carefully adjusted through
post-treatment so that it tastes good to guests but is not
aggressive and destructive to fixtures and pools. Wastewater
must have adequate alkalinity coming into the wastewater
plant to avoid unnecessary upsets to the plant. Grease from
restaurants must be trapped before entering the wastewater
plant, which involves not only properly designed and sized
grease traps but also adequate grease handling procedures
at the resort. Sludge handling is often over looked
in the design of a wastewater plant, but if this issue is
not fully addressed in the design, the cost and difficulty
of sludge disposal can overwhelm a resort and its operating
budget. And laundries can present their own sets of problems with
excessive lint and injections of cleaning chemicals and solvents.
TSG is familiar with these issues, and a range of potential solutions
for each of them, because we deal with them every day, both in
the design and construction of plants and in their daily operation.
Design and Construction
TSG and its personnel have extensive experience dealing with
the special problems presented by resort water and wastewater utilities.
We prefer to work along with your civil engineers, architects and
planners in master planning your utilities from the beginning of
your development. By bringing our experience and expertise to bear
early in a project, we can help you select the right locations,
technologies, feedwater supplies and brine and gray water disposal
solutions so that you are maximizing the favorable use of your
valuable property and minimizing both the capital cost and the
operating cost of your utilities.
It is important to note that while TSG is a provider
of treatment equipment, we are not bound to any one supplier
or technology. Instead, we use the complete palette of all
available technologies and products for the benefit of our
clients. In most cases in the Caribbean, seawater RO is the
only choice for water treatment, but the choice of feedwater
supply, energy recovery, brine disposal and sound attenuation
can have a major impact on the resort's operating cost as
well as your guests' experience.
For wastewater, membrane bioreactor (MBR)
plants will always provide the most consistent and high
quality effluent, with terrific expandability and the
smallest footprint, but it is usually the most expensive alternative.
In many cases it is not necessary to use MBR's, especially when
the effluent will not be reused for irrigation in guest areas.
We can provide costing for a variety of options for you to consider
in making this decision.
Operation and Maintenance
Once your plants are completed, it is imperative that they be
operated and maintained by knowledgeable and dedicated personnel.
The Caribbean is inherently a difficult place for such equipment.
The seawater air is corrosive, there are few if any parts or supplies
available on island, and storms require appropriate emergency procedures
developed to ensure that your equipment will survive the storm
and be back on line quickly. If proper operation and maintenance
are not regularly performed, you stand to lose much of your substantial
investment in your utilities.
When we are retained to provide O&M services,
you can rest assured that your plants will be on line when
you need them and will provide consistent and reliable service.
TSG takes 100% of the operational risk in the operation and maintenance
of its plant and conducts all repairs and replacements necessary
for the term of its agreement. We stock a full complement of parts
necessary to keep your plant up and running. And because we operate
many plants with compatible components throughout the Caribbean,
we have the added benefit of multiple inventories to draw from should
the unexpected occur. You will be able to budget the reasonable
cost of the operation and maintenance of the plants with no surprises
and count on your guests having an uninterrupted water supply and
invisible and odor-controlled wastewater treatment.
"TSG has made a tremendous impact
on the Westin St. John Resort and Villas.
We run a world class resort on the exclusive island of St. John with over
100,000 guests staying at our resort on an annual basis. The importance
of
providing water to a very demanding clientele is critical to our success
and
survival. TSG has provided a very professional and highly competent team
to
run our reverse osmosis plant. They have always been available to help not
only in running our plant, but with designing new pumping systems for our
potable water system, assist in repairs to our distribution system when
needed and generally been available 24 hours a day during any crisis. They
are an invaluable company with great resources, and a genuine willingness
to
be a partner in our success."
