Reverse Osmosis Seawater Desalination Plant
In June 1999, TSG commissioned a 160,000-gallon
per day seawater reverse osmosis plant for the Westin Resort
on St. John, United States Virgin Islands. TSG owns and operates
this facility and its related wastewater plant under a long-term
water sale agreement. Project goals included:
- Replacing and expanding an inefficient
100,000 gpd unit with a state of the art treatment system.
- Renovating the process building to meet
local flood plain and hurricane requirements.
- Reducing system power consumption through
the incorporation of energy recovery equipment.
- Providing post treatment to reduce corrosion
to island appliances.
Removal of the old equipment, renovation
of the buildings, and installation of the new equipment were
precisely planned and coordinated to maintain the resort’s
water production at all times.
TSG has operated, maintained, and consistently
provided pure drinking water to the resort and its guests. TSG also
replaced the seawater intake to improve both the quality and
reliability of the system's feedwater source.
Upon successful completion of the water
treatment system upgrades, Westin commissioned TSG to replace
the resort's distribution and irrigation pumping systems.
"TSG has made a tremendous impact on the Westin St. John
Resort and Villas.
We run a world class resort on the exclusive island of St.
John with over
100,000 guests staying at our resort on an annual basis. The
importance of
providing water to a very demanding clientele is critical
to our success and
survival. TSG has provided a very professional and highly
competent team to
run our reverse osmosis plant. They have always been available
to help not
only in running our plant, but with designing new pumping
systems for our
potable water system, assist in repairs to our distribution
system when
needed and generally been available 24 hours a day during
any crisis. They
are an invaluable company with great resources, and a genuine
willingness to
be a partner in our success."
